After two months of competition, most of the country's amateur leagues concluded their tournaments with a grand final, just before the start of the new school year this week. In the Carrefour-Feuilles district of Port-au-Prince, the Top Galilée team, supported by HAÏTI WEEKLY, came out on top.

Soccer and Passion: Carrefour-Feuilles Celebrates
The easing of armed tensions in the capital allowed sports championships to be held throughout the region, as in the rest of the country. Whether in areas controlled by armed groups or in those still free, the round ball was celebrated everywhere.
In Carrefour-Feuilles, the Top Galilée team, supported by HAITI WEEKLY since last year, won the final of this annual tournament.
No goals were scored in regulation time on the Alfred Park pitch, with its large concrete walls surrounding the hillside area that served as the stands for the occasion. Victory over the Simba team was decided by a penalty shoot-out.

In the evening, the final of the Sakaj Park tournament took place nearby in the Pacot district. Some of the star players are members of several teams competing in different tournaments, so they took part in the day's two finals. The match was won 2-0 by the Driver Moto team against FC Champion.
Since the arrival of the new transitional government this spring, Turgeau and the surrounding area have enjoyed much better electricity supply than in recent years. As a result, the match was able to continue after dark, despite three brief power cuts lasting just a few minutes.
Soccer [foutbòl] matches in Haiti are often played with mini-goals. This is particularly common in urban areas where there is a lack of space. Instead of a goalkeeper, a defensive player guards the goal.

10 Years of K2D: Georges Harry Rouzier's Social Mirror

A large part of the Haitian community of photographers and photography enthusiasts gathered for the second in a series of exhibitions organized in honor of the 10th anniversary of the K2D photography collective. Each of these exhibitions takes place in the studio of a member of the collective.

A week ago, the artist Georges Harry Rouzier invited the public to Delmas 31, where, in addition to a large indoor hall, the cul-de-sac in front of the building was closed off for the event. The walls on both sides of the street were used to hang the works, grouped according to the artist's projects over the years, whether they concerned the Grand Cimetière de Port-au-Prince or the socio-economic reality of the capital.

With music, popcorn and fresko (ice cream and fruit syrup), the event turned into a street party, an oasis of peace in a troubled city.

A new date has been set for next month in the studio of photographer Ray Pa Klè.

Pawòl Tanbou in Concert to Launch New Album
To celebrate the launch of their new album Renesans (Spotify, Apple Music), the band Pawòl Tanbou gives Haitian drums a starring role in songs inspired by jazz and Caribbean music.
Accompanied by six musicians, the band's two lead singers welcomed a number of guest artists on stage, including singer Rebèl Layonn and percussionist Welele Doubout, who also contribute to this very solid album.

Music Video of the Week
Bif - Kenny Haiti feat. Mickael Guiraud
One of the kings of compas, Mickael Guiraud of the group Vayb, teams up with the young singer Kenny Haiti to present this new hit, which has already passed one million views mark on YouTube two weeks after its release.
“Darling, let's bury our disagreement [beef],” repeats the refrain of Bif, a reference to the English word beef. True to the compas tradition, this love song features an enchanting solo in the second half.
Port-au-Prince Under siege, Pont-Sondé Attacked

The occupation of most of downtown Port-au-Prince and areas to the south and north of the city's metropolitan area has continued in recent weeks, while the new armoured vehicles received at the end of August patrol the remaining free districts almost continuously. In recent days, the violence has moved to the rural commune of Pont-Sondé in the Artibonite department.
This small town is located near Saint-Marc, one of the first large towns still free north of Port-au-Prince. For almost two months, an armed group has been threatening to attack the town, where residents have resisted. By expanding their territory, the criminal group hopes to extort a recurring “tax” from shopkeepers, secure a route for illicit traffic and make it easier to ransom travellers on Route Nationale #1.
The Haitian police finally regained control of the area after sending reinforcements on Friday to support the local teams, who were trying to resist, despite a lack of manpower and equipment. Unfortunately, the intervention came too late to save 70 people, including three babies, who would have been killed in the most violent attack on Thursday morning.

Food prices continue to rise in the capital, while the national road to the south remains blocked by armed criminal groups. The area around the Portail Léogane bus station and the Sylvio Cator stadium, once one of the busiest, now sees very little traffic (photo above).

Further down town, in the occupied zone of La Saline, relative peace seems to have returned after some armed clashes between two groups seeking to control part of the area at the entrance to the city's port.

New TikTok Account for DÈYÈ MÒN ENFO
In collaboration with videographer Rudel A. Bereth, we're launching a new series of vertical videos on our social networks (FB, Twitter/X, IG) and a brand new TikTok account created for the occasion. The series, which will also appear in each issue of HAITI WEEKLY, will highlight various cultural events taking place in the Port-au-Prince area.
At a Glance - The return of PaPJazz's revelation
The revelation of last January's Festival de Jazz de Port-au-Prince (PaPJazz), Fameuse Maude, was back on stage in the capital last week. Music Thursdays at the Institut français de Port-au-Prince, one of the city's last remaining concert venues, welcomed the artist for a vibrant soul-jazz performance. The emotion was palpable as the singer was accompanied by a dancer and several musicians.
